How to prepare yourself for an interview
Breathe - interviewing can be scary, breathe in before the interview and make sure you are in a calm state of mind at least 5 min before the interview. Make sure you don't need to rush for your interviews as your adrenaline peaks and stress might take over.
βBe yourself - everyone wants to show the best side of themselves, but you might come across questions that take you off guard, so no need to pretend to be someone else! We celebrate humanity, honesty, and transparency π.
βRead - when you apply for a job, people want to understand your drive, your motivation, your aspiration. In order to reflect all of this properly, you need to read about the company's industry, the culture, the values, basically all the information available. We already made a list of a bunch of articles you can read, so now it's up to you!
βSTAR(E) - Practise examples from your experience with the STARE-method. This will help you explain and structure your answers.
β
S = Situation. Set the scene and give the necessary details of your example
β
T= Task. Describe what your responsibility was in that situation
β
A = Action. Explain exactly what steps you took to address it
β
R = Result. Share what outcomes your actions achieved
β
E = Evaluate. Look back at decisions you have made and think of how you can do things differently next time!
βFeedback - Look back at former interview feedback and use this to prepare and get even better at interviewing. It's hard to look back at (negative) feedback, but see it as a learning point! It will help you move those mountains.
βPractise - Get a friend involved, if you can, or simply speak to yourself in front of the mirror. Go through typical first-round interview questions and try to respond, on the spot, to see if you get stuck on any points (a good chance to be taking notes). If you find yourself struggling on certain questions, keep practising until you get comfortable with your response.
βExpectations - Share your expectations on the process and the company, to make sure you and the person interviewing are aligned.
